Age Concern in partnership with Crawley Neighbourhood Network are piloting a scheme for people over 55s. Chair based Exercise is performed whilst seated. It is a series of movements, stretches and exercises that allow a less mobile person the opportunity to increase the heart rate and exercise limbs without bearing their own weight.
Currently there is a class running by Linda Swatton for Age Concern at Holy Trinity Church, Titmus Drive, Tilgate. The classes run on Thursdays from 09.30-10.15am and cost £1.50.

Crawley Neighbourhood Network has been working throughout October bringing together West Sussex Fire Service with older people in Crawley who need smoke alarms. The aim is to reduce fires by making sure that all older people in Crawley have smoke alarms that will alert them in the event of fire. If you need a visit from a Fire Officer and a smoke alarm please contact the Network 01293 657160.

West Sussex Trading Standards “Interventions Team”
Is an older person you know constantly being visited by the same trader (often a builder, roofer or similar)? Are they making repeated cash withdrawals to pay them? Or have they had building work done that they don’t seem to need (for example, a new driveway when they don’t have a car)?
If you think the answer to any of the above is “yes” call trading standards on 08454 040506. We have an Interventions Team that is able to directly act on behalf of vulnerable consumers – including the ability to visit at short notice if a trader is at the person’s home.

Buy With Confidence approved trader scheme – new Directory Launched
The Trading Standards Buy With Confidence scheme has over 250 trade members across the county covering a wide range of functions from funeral directors to roofing specialists. All have been vetted by Trading Standards to ensure they provide a good service. Now, as well as the Buy With Confidence website (www.buywithconfidence.info), a hard copy directory is also available.
