My Neighbourhood
Our Community Engagement Workers are working in all areas of Crawley, discovering all that’s going on as well as identifying gaps.
The Community Engagement Workers are working to:
- Understand the needs of older people
- Encourage people to volunteer
- Establish intergenerational activity such as allotment work, cooking a meal and chatting together
- Organise neighbourhood events
- Set up community newsletters
- Train older people in computing, mobile phone use and many other useful skills
- Establish a local telephone befriending project
- Establish friendship circles to provide companionship for older people in the evenings and at weekends
- Encourage shopkeepers, postmen, fire fighters, milkmen and utility workers to keep an eye out for the welfare of vulnerable older people
- Set up ‘active age centres’ with a café style environment to host a variety of activities
- Encourage older people to act as ‘community champions’ to look out for the wellbeing of other older people in their neighbourhood
